A review of the Underworld album Barbara Barbara, We Face a Shining Future.

Quite faithful to their moniker, Underworld enjoyed a diverse career within the world of electronic music, as they've influenced countless acts throughout the years, even though their work might find more proselytes within the scene than it does within the mainstream electronic music audience.

Their recent studio effort, Barbara Barbara, We Face a Shining Future is still deeply rooted within the band's EDM backbone, but the seven tracks featured on the album don't sound like a simple reenactment of Underworld's past, but they seem to carry the project's trademark sound into the contemporary scene.

The record begins with a set of classic bangers, including “If Rah” and “Low Burn,” before taking a breather and diving into a rather more experimental territory on “Santiago Cuatra,” where the group seems to feel more free to go with their creative flow, without necessarily being concerned with creating a hit for the dance floor. Moments such as this one are the strengths of this album: passed the pressure to kickstart the album with a couple of anthems for the club scene, Underworld are free to put something new into their songs and expand their vision and reach.
