A review of the Yung song “The Child.”

Hailing from Aarhus, Denmark's second largest city, Yung is a group of early 20-somethings who have been hard at work. Releasing an album and an EP last year, the band is now gearing up for their sophomore release entitled A Youthful Dream due out June 10th. The band draws on the icy Scandanavian indie feel of bands like Mew and Kent, but there's a bit of punk grit in singer Mikkel Holm Silkjær's vocals. Ramping up for their new album, Yung just dropped the single, "The Child".

"The Child" has the feel of John Lennon's classic "Imagine" and moves along mid-tempo, punctuated electric snare drum crackles. There is warm electric guitar crunch, piano chords and even a horn section. The lyrics and vocals capture a sense of longing and sadness while the music has great hooks and a beautiful arrangement.
