A review of the music festival Taste Of Country.

I grew up listening to country music and then it turned to pop and then transitioned to rock, where my musical preferences have predominantly stayed. Photographing Taste of Country has been a joyous reminder of my childhood, and what I grew up listening to and although my tastes have changed it's still refreshing to hear.

What's even more refreshing is being exposed to artists you haven't heard of before when they actually sound quite amazing live like Annie Bosko, Jana Kramer, Cadillac Three, and Big & Rich. When a musician can turn someone onto their music with just one song, then that's a job well done. Especially when I walk away wanting to hear more and find myself listening to their music on Pandora later.

Annie Bosko's song "Crooked Halo" was a remarkable song to hear live, and I must say that now I'm a fan of her music. I can honestly see her career take off and becoming as big as Taylor Swift. Jana Kramer's "Why Ya Wanna" struck a chord for me, as it did to many people at the festival. Her vocals have such range and power while still having a country twang which must be hard to always do. It's like always singing with an accent, a gift country singers have while I will always lack.

Cadillac Three was a sight to see with one of their catchiest tunes "Party Like You," which still rings in my ears. They seem to really know how to have a good time on stage and really brought the audience alive. Big Kenny of Big & Rich reminded me of the country version of Guns N Roses what with his Slash-like hat, and the dynamic duo had the crowd going wild with their songs "Comin' To Your City" and "Save A Horse (Ride A Cowboy) which is quite the classic and popular tune in country.

Being a fan of rock, it was so stellar to end my night seeing the sensational Kid Rock. Although he announced he doesn't know why he keeps getting booked at country festivals, it's apparent to see why because his music combines rap and rock with some country. Or maybe it's because he wears a cowboy hat. Judging from his performance, he seems like one of the coolest rock stars you could possibly hang out with, because he's all about having fun and having a good time. I wish I could have met him!

This was my second year covering Taste of Country, this time without the rain but even if there were rain, it would still be a blast. There needs to be more country festivals, especially in the Hudson Valley. I believe we take for granted how many country fans there are in the area. It's a genre of music that still reigns strong and true amongst fans.

I still forgot to try a dog bowl of fries from one of the vendors at Taste of Country this year. Welp, there's always next year!
