A review of the Explosions In The Sky Live In New York at Terminal 5

Explosions In The Sky is a band that means a lot to me, personally. It’s a band that opened my eyes and ears to a whole new way of intending music by introducing me to the post-rock sound. A classic "rock line-up" could suddenly be much more than your average bunch of headbangers, it could be a vehicle to create sophisticated compositions and explore cinematic textures.

On September 22nd, The Texas band graced the stage of Manhattan's Terminal 5 with their live act. Having previously seen the band a few years back in Sweden, I was familiar with the group's stage antics and blistering loud volume. Their live set has improved since then, and the band is as tight as ever. The electronic contamination on the band's recent album The Wilderness contributed to more sonic diversity, alternating new tracks with oldies and fan favorites such as “The Only Moment We Were Alone,” which was one of the highlights of the show.

The band was on point and the genius of their music takes on an even more personal dimension in a live setting. One thing worth noting is the stunning light show that felt almost like an additional member of the band — the lights and visual effects truly added something to the music and to the entire experience.
