Beach Slang don’t really seem too concerned with innovation or avant-garde. On the contrary, their approach is refreshingly regressive, going for that primal energy of alternative music that is often lacking in many modern releases. There's something visceral about a group of musicians feeding off of each others energy in order to make simple, direct and passionate music, and that kind of energy will simply never stop being appealing to me.

It doesn't matter that I've heard the chords to "Punks in a Disco Bar" (reviewed earlier here) a bunch of times throughout the years, the point is that Beach Slang play their music with attitude and conviction. The title of the album itself is a pretty good indicator of the music, tipping the hat at acts such as The Replacements or Husker Du with a touch of nostalgia, but also plaining referring to the band loud, noisy and melodic rock and roll.

On songs such as "Young Hearts", Beach Slang explores mid-tempo college rock hooks, with hints of old school emo (Think Jawbreaker or Armchair Martian) and bittersweet alternative rock, a la Superchunk.

Overall, A Loud Bash of Teenage Feelings is an enjoyable album with great production aesthetics, for any fan of punk, alternative and emo.
