Everybody's favorite Icelandic siren has been hard at work on new material, which is supposed to favor an all-vocal delivery instead of using instruments. A very interesting decision to be sure. It seems that everytime she has a new album she is able to successfully redefine herself with a new addition to her sound, and this time looks to be a big jump forward, because, you know, conventions can be so boring.

"Instruments are so over," she said in an interview with Rolling Stone. I guess the idea is to create music with sounds rather than using instruments, using the voice to imitate other sounds. She has brought in Rahzel (the human beat box), Shlomo, and Dokaka as a rythym section, as well as Faith No More-Mr. Bungle singer Mike Patton for vocal additions, among other people.

The release date for the U.S. is August 31st, with a limited edition version with expanded artwork for the insert + 16-panel poster. It will be available in both CD and SACD (Super Audio Compact Disc) formats. The album title is Medulla, a title suggested to her by a friend. "I was having problems with finding a title and the furthest i got was ink. I wanted it to be like the core of us visceral pagan stile, like the blood in us, but even deeper and darker."
