The South by Southwest (SXSW) Film Festival, part
of the SXSW Music Festival, will be premiering The
Wendell Baker Story on its opening night. The
movie premiere will take place on March 11th, at the
Paramount Theater in downtown Austin.
The Wendell Baker Story is a movie directed
by Luke and Owen Wilson. It stars Luke Wilson,
Owen Wilson, Eva Mendes, and Eddie
Griffin in a comedy-drama-romance.
The story on the Internet Movie Database (IMDB)
is that this was a script that Owen Wilson has had
in draft form for 5-6 years, and has finally seen
it through to the screen. Owen plays the part of an
ex-con who becomes a nurse in a retirement home. The
residents help Wilson win back a girl while he fights
hotel corruption (?). I don't what the 'hotel corruption'
thing means, but if there's room for hotel corruption
in a retirement home, I might not want to know about
it.
"As film fans and fellow Texans, we have nothing
but admiration for the Wilson brothers," says
Matt Dentler, Festival Producer for SXSW.
"I can't think of a better idea than having their
directorial debut launch this year's festival. You
want to give audiences a great time, and this is a
fantastic way to do it."
