Wayne Coyne speaks on the
new Flaming Lips album Wayne Coyne has revealed
some insight to the upcoming Flaming Lips album At
War With The Mystics, and it looks like the band
has been finding some new inspiration.
The album is due out in early 2006, and will provide
a more direct approach to lyrics and music than previous
abstract work by the band. They have been divining
new influences and subject matter for their work,
and this has been integrated into the new music. They
are promising more guitars and more of a confrontation
on modern issues than in the past few albums.
"I don't think you could be making any art in
the atmosphere that we're in now with the war
and the different ways people feel about the Bush
administration and all that without having
some things that sort of, not address that specifically,
but address this whole idea of what you do with power,"
Coyne said recently when speaking to VH1.
"Without any true intention, I think we've found
some guitar-rock things that we're freaked out about.
People will see that some of it has gone more weird
rock."
