Sonic Youth release SYR6 - the
next phase
of the legendary SYR series
Sonic Youth have released their 6th installment
to the legendary SYR series — and it's
titled SYR 6 Koncertinas Stan Brakhage Prisiminimui.
The album is a recording of Sonic Youth's
live set at a benefit show for The Anthology Film
Archives in 2003. That show was a benefit for avant-garde
filmaker Stan Brakhage, to help his family cover medical
costs before his death. SY performed with drummer/percussionist
Tim Barnes.
Stan Brakhage was one of the most important and revolutionary
filmakers of the avant-garde genre, making hundreds
of films that explored themes like the relationship
between dream worlds and reality.
On that night in 2003, Sonic Youth played
an "intimate, predominantly instrumental chamber
concert" with Brakhage films playing during the
show. This time around, proceeds from the CD will
go in part to The Anthology Film Archives. The album
also comes with a random SY item such as a sticker,
backstage pass, show ticket or similar artifact. Help
