Sonic Youth Head Back to the Studio

Sonic Youth have announced that they've been back in the Studio, recording material for a new release due out later this year. The band has returned to the legendary Sear Sound studio in New York - home to sessions from other classic New York icons like Suzanne Vega and Lou Reed. Sear Sound claims to be one of the oldest in New York, and is part of a die-hard group of vintage and mainly analogue studios that still exist despite the advent of the home studio. Sonic Youth recorded the albums Sister and Experimental Jet Set, Trash and No Star at Sear Sound.

Songs recorded so far include Pink Steam, Do You Believe in Rapture?, Or and Sleepin Around. They hope to release a full-length album later this year.

Sonic Youth just released the sixth installment of their SYR series in December, titled Koncertinas Stan Brakhage Prisiminimui. The album is a recording of Sonic Youth's live set at a benefit show for The Anthology Film Archives in 2003.

Also up for 2006 is another repacking/enhancement/upgrade for an older Sonic Youth classic titled Ciccone Youth - The Whitey Album, a la the kind of retrofitting we've seen with Goo and Dirty over the past couple of years.
