Broken Social
Scene Start European/Australian Tour
Broken Social Scene have broken free from
Canada to go on tour. Maybe they're still
reeling fresh from that crazy Canadian
election that turned their their government
like a giant U-turn towards a conservative
take over. Those crazy Canadians are so
behind the times (and the U.S.) in politics...
we had our conservative shift way back
in 2000. At least Canada is making great
music which brings us back to Broken
Social Scene...
They've kicked off a month of overseas
tour dates. Perhaps in hommage to vampirism,
they've started in Italy's famous Transilvania.
From there, they'll sweep across the European
Union (U.K. mostly) before going to Australia.
The band just finished a three night
stand at New York's Webster Hall to a
mixed reaction from fans. Apparently there
were some sound and noise level issues
the first night as the beats from a dance
club beneath Webster Hall started bleeding
through to the show, which caused the
band to stop playing. By some accounts,
the show never seemed to recover.
But the next two nights seemed to provide
an example of a band that can let the
music flow on all the right levels at
the right times.
"Tonight was incredible. We just
had so much fun tonight," said Jimmy
Shaw, while speaking to Ryan Enriquez.
"It's been about a year and half
since I played a Broken Social Scene show,
and my God are they fun. It's like a party
down there [on stage]. With so many people
performing, a lot of us can take a break
for a few songs, have a few drinks, and
then go back on. It's a really fun way
to tour."
They haven't been confirmed for the SXSW
music festival, but those dates are conspicuously
open on the tour schedule... right after
they come back from Australia...
B.S.S are touring in support 0f their
2005 self-titled release.
