TV On the Radio on Interscope
Indie bands grow up fast these days. It
seems like just yesterday that I heard
TV On the Radio for the first time
on Radio K, or heard the cool people working
at the coffee shop playing their music.
They were up and coming, they hadn't
written a song about the President (Dry
Drunk Emperor), and they most definitely
weren't on a recording label that was
one step removed from the corporate boheometh
A&M Records. But earlier this
week, Pitchfork announced that they'd
heard that the group was making the move
from Touch and Go Records to Interscope.
Outside of the U.S., they'll stay on
4AD Records, their current European
home away from home. There's also talk
of a name for the upcoming release: the
web rumor mill has dubbed it Return
To Cookie Mountain as the official
unoffical name.
And there's a track list floating around,
which originally was put out into the
web stream of consciousness by the band
through their Young
Liars blog. They posted it last June
, and the song has remained the same since
then:
TV On the Radio:
Track List
01 Playhouses
02 I Was a Lover
03 Province
04 Snakes + Martyrs
05 Wolf Like Me
06 Tonight
07 Dirty Whirlwind
08 A Method
09 Let the Devil In
10 Blues From Down Here
11 Wash the Day Away
So is it the right track list? Who knows!
The band gave it out, but who knows how
much it could have changed since then.
The album was originally rumored to be
out last fall, and here it is March of
2006 and we don't have it yet. They could
have changed song names, arrangements,
or even recorded more new songs by now.
They're also touring sporadically over
the next few months in a strange weaving
of tour dates that never seem to stray
too far from any coast (New York, Baton
Rouge, San Diego, Seattle). What's the
matter boys, afraid of the locals when
you get away from the coast? They'll let
their good friends and 4AD labelmates
Celebration open up for about half
the dates. They'll also play a show with
with Bloc Party in Tempe, Arizona.
