Indie label Asthmatic Kitty has signed the Vancouver band Shapes and Sizes to the label to release its next album. The self-titled album will be released on July 11th, and features experimental sounds alongside pop hooks. The result is songs that weave between styles, almost sounding like songs within songs.
The band caught the label's attention by sending in a demo, but what made the difference to the people at Asthmatic Kitty was the bands inspired live performances. Sufjan Stevens, Lowell Brams, and Michael Kaufmann were impressed buy the passion and intensity of the band's live act, and that was enough for AK to sign the band. The band recruited Tolan McNeil (Frog Eyes) to produce the album.
Asthmatic Kitty plays home to many well-known indie bands like Sufjan Stevens, Castanets, and Liz Janes.
