Juana Molina, José González and Psapp Will Hit the Road Together
By: Spacelab Research Staff
The triumvirate of indie acts Juana Molina, José González and Psapp will all join forces for a tour of select North American cities in the second half of June. They'll be hitting cities like San Francisco, Seattle, Montreal, Minneapolis and New York. It's an electronic folk tour, taking organic folk roots and combining them with synthetic electronic sounds.
Jauna Molina is from Argentina. She's plays electronic-folk music and has been compared to anyone from Stereolab to Nick Drake, and her music is more internationalist than South American. She was even asked by David Byrne to open for him on tour! She'll be touring in support of ner new album, Son, out on Domino Records on May 23rd.
Also on Domino Records, Psapp use experimental sounds under the influence of artists like Erik Satie, Duke Ellington and The Cure to create a hybrid of “anything that’s silly and uses stupid noises,” in the band's own words. They'll be supporting their album, The Only Thing I Ever Wanted, due out on June 6th.
Jose Gonzales is more in the straight-up folk category, and his album Veneer has just been reissued by Mute Records. As Brooklyn Vegan has pointed out, he's gone from playing his first NYC show to the Conan O'Brien show in less than six months. Pretty impressive juggernaut. Is at all for real?
