The Mars Volta: You'll Get Amputechture When We Like It

By: Spacelab Research Staff
The Mars Volta have been hard at work on their new album, and have said that they're getting by with a little help from their friends. The album is going to be titled Amputechture, and will be the first official release since the band's live album, Scab Dates, in the Fall of 2005.

They've invited John Frusciante of the Red Hot Chili Peppers to play on the album, although it's unclear at this point how much of a contribution he's making. TMV's Omar Rodriguez played on the Red Hot Chili Peppers' album Stadium Arcadium, so now the circle of contributions is complete. They're also touring with RHCP this summer on a corporate arena tour.

The Mars Volta are also getting surrealist artist Jeff Jordan to do the cover. Jordan has a penchant for almost Dali-esque landscapes, often featuring nude women, animals and rural scenes.

They've been releasing information in insanely small doses over the past week, and the next installment is promised to be the art work for the cover. I think they're trying to build some PR/blogosphere momentum. In the meantime we have a track list, complete with their now patented egalitarian naming scheme, and some tour dates:
