The Long Winters Release Putting The Days To Bed Today
By: Spacelab Research Staff The Long Winters release a new EP today, titled Putting The Days To Bed on Barsuk Records. It's the band's second EP in two years, following last year's Ultimatum EP. The last full length release was When I Pretend in 2003.
The Long Winters is the brain child of former Harvy Danger member John Roderick. Roderick has worked with members of Built to Spill and once-labelmates Death Cab For Cutie in the past. The band has gone through various line up changes in the past, but currently includes members John Roderick, Nabil Ayers, Eric Corson, and Jonathan Rothman.
John Roderick describes his writing style like this, "Everybody has little disasters pock-marking their memory, and little triumphs growing up between the cracks, and I write songs about that stuff without any grand historical message, without any self-conscious yelping, and without any one-sided conflict with 'the man.' You've got your girls and boys of all shapes and sizes and they bump into each other in all possible combinations and that's enough raw material for pop songs stretching to infinity."
The band just recently finished up some European tour dates with Centro-matic and is also set to play the Austin City Limits Festival in September.
