The Flaming Lips have recorded part of their upcoming live CD and DVD set at a recent show in Hollywood on July 23. The band captured a number of tracks from their recently released At War With the Mystics during the show, and will continue recording at an upcoming gig in Oklahoma City. The upcoming show will see them recording older material from previous albums.
They're hoping to use super-high quality audio this time around, bassist Michael Ivins told Billboard in a recent interview "We're hoping that by the time we're actually doing it, we can put it out in whatever format, like the Blu Ray or HD DVD, [that] Warner Bros. is picking up on and be able to do high resolution, uncompressed audio this time around."
They're also trying to build a UFO for use in as many shows as possible. The band isn't sure how its going to play out, but they'll take a see how it goes approach.
"That's how we do a lot of stuff -- we'll think of something and then we'll figure out how to do it afterwards."
