By: Spacelab Research Staff Art Brut has signed with the UK-based label Mute Records for their new album, due out sometime in 2007. In a recent interview with Pitchfork, the band's Eddie Argos and Jasper Future said that they've completed seven or eight songs, without lyrics.
"We've got the music done, and we're just waiting for Eddie to write the words. That takes a bit longer. Eddie's an artist. He needs time to think...We'll be, ‘Have you written the words?' And he'll say, ‘The best way for me to write is on this sofa with my eyes shut,'" said Jasper Future.
They've agreed with Mute to complete the album by December of this year, but they're not sure if they'll quite make the deadline, saying "We don't think it's going to happen. But that's the plan."
The band will also release a split 7" single with We Are Scientists, with each band covering one of the other's songs. Art Brut will play The Great Escape and We Are Scientists will play Bang Bang Rock & Roll.
