CHECK THIS: Ex-Deerhoof Guy Chris Cohen Is In The Curtains
By: Spacelab Research Staff
The guy's got guts, for sure. Ex-Deerhoof bassist Chris Cohen started recording the new Curtains album at a time when Deerhoof was reaching a new apex to its existence. Their album The Runners Four was exploding all over the world, and their future was (and still is) bright. So what did he do? He isolated himself in the mountains, and wrote and recorded an album's worth of material. There was no recording contract yet either, so this was all a toss of the dice.
And our boy Chris is a go getter, so he isolated himself in a California mountain cabin and recorded a bunch of music in which he played all of the instruments and sang on all of the songs. Somebody's been studying up on their Prince history.
He emerged with what's now an album called Calamity. It's due out on October 24th on Sufjan Steven's Asthmatic Kitty Records.
Permanent members of the band besides Chris include Nedelle Torrisi, Annie Lewandowski, and Corey Fogel (Mae Shi). John Ringhofer (Half-handed Cloud) played an additional role.
They're also heading out on tour, playing with Final Fantasy, Beirut, and Get Him Eat Him depending on the date:
