Anthology Recordings To Launch Digital Label

By: Spacelab Research Staff
In the next installment of life in the digital age, Kemado Records own Keith Abrahamsson is launching his own Internet-only, reissue-only label called Anthology Recordings. They'll kick off the whole thing on October 5th at www.anthologyrecordings.com, and will offer initial releases by Pärson Sound, China Shop, African Head Charge, Suicide Commandos, Moondog, Sainte Anthony’s Fyre, and My Solid Ground.

Anthology Recordings will offer individual tracks for just under a dollar, and will make certain titles alternately available at iTunes, Emusic, and Rhapsody. There are future plans for releases by Scientists, and compilations curated by Andy Votel and Stefan Kéry.

Keith Abrahamsson is better known as A&R rep for New York's Kemado Records, and can take credit for getting bands like Dungen, Lansing-Drieden, and The Sword signed to Kemado.

"I'd say that the idea came from two places - My passion for collecting rare LP's and the lack of online resources for downloading rare & out of print material. The idea came in October of 2005 and has been in the works since January 2006," said Keith when describing his idea for the label.

"I think there are a significant number of people out there who are already into this stuff and even more who will become very interested in the releases Anthology has to offer. In terms of format - i think doing reissues digitally is a totally logical next step. It cuts a lot of production costs and you can also avoid those import costs. Ultimately, I would like to be able to do our releases digitally with some artists getting limited vinyl runs."
