Toronto's Mint Records recently announced that they've signed The Awkward Stage to release their upcoming album Heaven Is For Easy Girls on October 10th.
The Awkward Stage is fronted by Shane Nelken, the guitarist for AC Newman (The New Pornographers). He's been a friend of Mint Records for a while, so signing him felt natural for the label that already plays home the New Pornographers. The album was co-produced and engineered by the New Pornographers' drummer Kurt Dahle.
The album is an exercise in pop artistry, attempting to replace American Idol-type rejects with style and substance, words that can still be hard to come by in today's musical climate.
