Jose Gonzales Hits the U.S. With Zero 7

By: Sarshar Hosseinnia
If you listen closely to the whisper in Jose Gonzales’ voice, you can hear traces of Nick Drake, Bob Dylan and the late Syd Barrett. He's touring with Zero 7 this fall on a set of US tour dates that are currently underway.

The Swedish-born, half Argentinean singer/songwriter fits into the category of broody-balladeer, while his Latin roots prevail in many of his songs, offering an up-beat tempo to support the lonesome sound he creates.

Unlike many of his predecessors, Gonzales hasn’t had commercial success, and is only now, at the age of 28, beginning to hit the charts; his recent album, Veneer is currently embedded in the U.K. top ten. Gonzales, however, has had the privilege of playing in his homeland with the Dalai Lama, and has also headlined concerts with Canadian indie-artists Arcade Fire and Latina songstress Juana Molina. It was at these concerts that Gonzales made a name for himself as an incredible live performer, one that has to be seen to be believed.

Zero 7 are an alternative band out of Britain comprising of musical duo Henry Binns and Sam Hardaker and combine the talents of sometimes contributors Gonzales, Australian born singer Sia Furler, and Eddie, Rob, Dedi and Tom as the back-up musicians, who integrate folk, electro-pop and intimate trance.

Zero 7 are on tour in support of their third album, The Garden. Expect to see Gonzales sharing vocals with Furler and Hardaker.
