M. Ward Stays True To His Roots

By: Sarshar Hossiennia
With this imminent release titled Post-War, M. Ward will be touring the U.S. and Canada. He'll start with concerts in Seattle and Vancouver, and conclude with a night at the Aladdin Theatre in Portland, Oregon, a city where Ward first cut his musical teeth.

M. Ward (or Matt Ward) is a singer/songwriter out of San Luis Obispo, California and specialises in Americana-folk, country and blues. He's currently with Merge Records. His sound can be compared to early Bruce Springsteen, a melancholy sadness, with a Badly Drawn Boy rush to it. His lyrics are not-unlike something from Bob Dylan.

Formerly a member of indie-trio, Rodriguez, Ward went solo in 1998, releasing Duet for Guitars #2. Now eight years on, M. Ward is back, and with a new album to boot. Post-War, to be released August 29th is said to be, “helped in a miniscule way to change the mind-set of America."

Ward is on his fourth studio album, having also produced two albums; a tribute to blues pioneer John Fahey, and Rabbit Fur Coat by Jenny Lewis and the Watson Twins.

In 2004, Ward had the honor to tour as a special guest guitarist with Bright Eyes, collaborating with Sprinsgsteen himself, as well as CCR singer, John Fogerty, and R.E.M.
With this much experience behind him, and a penchant for playing deep-rooted soulful music, M. Ward should not be missed this fall.
