Flaming Lips Prep Rerelease of At War With The Mystics With CD / DVD

By: Spacelab Research Staff
Repackaged, reformulated and soon to be resold, the Flaming Lips will release a new expanded version their album At War With The Mystics On October 24th in the U.S. and November 6th in the U.K. Nothing is forever anymore, it just becomes new and improved.

And improved it is. 5.1 Surround Sound, 13 extra audio tracks, and A DVD will be part of the release. The DVD will feature videos for The W.A.N.D., The Yeah Yeah Yeah Song, and Mr Ambulance Driver; it will also include a graduation speech that Wayne Coyne did this year at the Classen School of Advanced Studies in Oklahoma City.

It will feature the original album tracks, plus outtakes Why Does It End?, You've Got To Hold On, Your Face Can Tell the Future, The Gold in the Mountain of Our Madness, Time Travel?? Yes!! and Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody. There's even radio sessions that include Led Zeppelin and Sonic Youth covers.

In other FL news, there's also a live DVD on the way, for a future and later release, that was taped at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles on July 23rd. The band captured a number of tracks from their recently released At War With the Mystics during the show, and also recorded their gig in Oklahoma City. At the Oklahoma City show, they recorded older material from previous albums.

The Flaming Lips hoping to use super-high quality audio this time around, bassist Michael Ivins told Billboard in an interview "We're hoping that by the time we're actually doing it, we can put it out in whatever format, like the Blu Ray or HD DVD, [that] Warner Bros. is picking up on and be able to do high resolution, uncompressed audio this time around."

They're also trying to build a UFO for use in as many shows as possible. The band isn't sure how its going to play out, but they'll take a see how it goes approach.

"That's how we do a lot of stuff -- we'll think of something and then we'll figure out how to do it afterwards."
