Now a stated favorite of Mr. Lou Reed himself, Okkervil River have set out on a set of U.S. tour dates that stretch through most of October. The band is touring in support of 2005's release Black Sheep Boy, but has new material on the way. Opening act Elvis Perkins will be along for most of the dates on the tour.
Lead singer Will Sheff is also playing a few solo dates with Jenny Lewis and the Watson Twins towards the end of October.
Okkervil River will release a 12" single of The President's Dead on Jagjaguwar Records. Described by the label as "folk anthem tarted up as a pop single that never was," they've also made it available as a free MP3 (see link below) .
2006 has been a busy and promising year for the band, as they signed to EMI in Europe and rereleased Black Sheep Boy and Black Sheep Boy Appendix as a double disc set in Europe. Okkervil River went into the studio in February to record new songs for release on Jagjaguwar.
