Google Could Be Looking At Buying YouTube

By: Spacelab Research Staff
And it's no joke, either. When the Wall Street Journal prints it, there's more than a good chance that it's true. Google is supposedly looking at spending $1.6 billion to acquire YouTube according to "a person familiar with the matter."

And it would make perfect sense... Google Video and YouTube could make a perfect combination of video, search, and usability. Google's mountains of cash could also hold off the much talked about "lawsuits" that lurk around the corner of every YouTube video over copyright ingringement. Google could help smooth out the talks at a sit down with big media companies over copyright violations... Google could help make nice.

And YouTube could add piles of more cash to Google's piles of cash. But there's also a theory that Google could consider buying YouTube to keep it out of the hands of Microsoft or Yahoo, or anybody else. After an appearnace The Charlie Rose Show, Viacom Chairman Sumner Redstone said that he wouldn't buy YouTube because of the potential copyright infringement thorn.

So for now... there's no news that's final. We'll have to see how this plays out...
