I don't know who started this exclamation point phenomenon in band names. It's like the exclamation point is the new Wolf band name thing (Wolf Parade, Wolfmother, Wolf Eyes, et al). With band names like Thunderbirds Are Now! and You Say Party! We Say Die! alongside video releases of Nirvana's Live! Tonight! Sold Out!! (they were so ahead of their time), we are living in very excited times.

Not to be left behind, ¡Forward, Russia! have gotten in the phenomenon. They even have an inverted exclamation point (¡) on the front of their name, spelling it ¡Forward, Russia!, just to double your pleasure.

The music is real and visceral, with roots in dark 80's UK sounds. They've been called anything from dance-punk to to post-punk to math rock. The one thing everybody seems to agree on is that the sound is explosive and the music is addictive.

The band has just released their album Give Me A Wall on Mute Records in North America, after releasing it in the UK on their own label Dance to the Radio. You can catch them on tour in support of their album with the Scanners and Snowden as they roam around the US in October and December, including a stop at the CMJ Marathon at the Mercury Lounge on November 2nd.
