And a serious tour at that. Last week it was announced via the Nine Inch Nails web site that there would be a European tour, and there would be a lot of dates. It starts on February 10th, and ends on April 10th.
It starts with a 3 day stint at the Coliseum in Lisbon before moving on to the rest of Europe. There's also the promise of more to come, and whether that means for Europe or other continents, we'll have to wait and see.
There's also a live DVD in the wings, titled Nine Inch Nails Live: Besides You In Time. It will be released in standard DVD, HD-DVD and BLU-RAY formats. In the now patented Nine Inch Nails fashion of making cryptic and minimilaist announcements via the web site in the form of a video teaser, there has been a small video released with some footage. It says the release will happen in early 2007, in high-definition, in the above formats. And there's some cool footage too.
And of course this all leads up to something, right? The new Nine Inch Nails album is due out in early 2007, thus the tour. You don't just schedule two months of shows half way around the world to road-test some new material, right? The word on the Interweb is that the new album will provide new creative directions for NIN. It will be mixed early in 2007 with a tentative release date in April.
