By: Spacelab Research Staff Matador Records has announced the signing of lo-fi band Times New Viking. The label has said that their album Dig Yourself was the "most exciting debut album" of 2005, and has seen fit to sign the band for a full length album due to be released sometime later this year.
Times New Viking is set to release an an album titled Present the Paisley Reich on their previous label Siltbreeze in February. Siltbreeze has played a hand in providing other lo-fi bands like Sebadoh and Guided By Voices to the world in the past.
Coming out the music mecca of Columbus, Ohio, Times New Viking is unashamedly lo-fi and raw in their sound, a three piece that packs a lot of sonic audacity in their music. The band is made up of drummer/vocalist Adam Elliot, keyboardist/vocalist Beth Murphy and Jared Phillips on guitar.
