By: Spacelab Research Staff Mike Patton's Peeping Tom project has announced a set of tour dates for late Spring that include a stop at the Coachella Music Festival. It appears that he's touring in support of last year's self titled release on Ipecac Recordings, but maybe there will be some new material this time around.
Mike Patton started out with Faith No More but moved on in his own right as a musician and a producer.
A revolutionary, watershed sort of moment for Patton, Peeping Tom is said to be more of a pop album than anything else. But before anyone cries sellout, consider this: his notion of pop might not be mainstream.
"This is my version of pop music," said Patton when speaking about the album. "In way, this is an exercise for me: taking all these things I've learned over the years and putting them into a pop format. I've worked with many people who have said to me, 'oh you have a pop record in you, eventually you'll find it,' and I always laughed at them. I guess I owe them an apology."
Appearances are made by a number of well-known contributors, including: Norah Jones, Kool Keith, Massive Attack, Amon Tobin, and Bebel Gilberto. Some of the collaborators never actually worked directly with Patton, but traded files over the Internet to build the demos into final versions.
