The Octopus Project Announce New Projects and Tour Dates + MP3
By: Spacelab Research Staff The Octopus Project has its tentacles wrapped around 2007 like it's going to be the biggest year the band has ever had. They're working on a new album, touring, contributing to soundtracks, playing SXSW, and going to Europe. Yes, EUROPE. And Taiwan. And Mexico.
They're currently recording in Seattle's Bear Creek Studio with Ryan Hadlock (Stephen Malkmus, The Gossip, Blonde Redhead, The Album Leaf) on the follow up to One Ten Hundred Thousand Million. The band also released a joint project with Black Moth Super Rainbow titled the House of Apples and Eyeballs in 2006, this combination of bands will be playing at this year's South By Southwest Music Festival at an as of yet unannounced date.
The band gathered a lot of attention when they won a contest to play at the 2006 Coachella Music Festival when someone entered them into a MySpace contest. The band won and was in the festival before they even knew they had a chance.
Described by their label Peek-A-Boo Records as "ambidextrous equipment failure junk-tronica," The Octopus Project create a hybrid of sounds loosely based around experimentalism, electronic leanings, and well, whatever they feel like throwing in at any particuliar moment.
The Octopus Project also were featured on the soundtrack to Aftermath on Meadowlark Lane, which just made an appearance at the Sundance Film Festival. The soundtrack will be available soon for download. Until then, check out the House of Apples and Eyeballs MP3:
