Plug Awards

Plug Awards 2007 Winners

By: Spacelab Research Staff
The Plug Awards - the Grammys of integrity, the People's Choice Award of the indie and underground world, just went down in NYC. Band Of Horses were big winners with 3 awards, and Sub Pop Records proved that their "world domination schedule" is not just a quirky PR title, winning the label of the year award. Other Sub Pop brethren CSS and Wolf Parade took home awards, adding further to the said Sub Pop domination.

OK, other people won too, including Arctic Monkeys (New Artist Of The Year), Neko Case (Female Artist Of The Year), and Sufjan Stevens (Male Artist Of The Year).

The Plug Awards seeks to create an awards show that escapes all of the evils of other awards shows that focus on sales, media saturation, etc (i.e. buying influence) to reward novel concepts like artistic integrity, and umm, good music. Sound like a foreign concept? It shouldn't, and that's why the Plug awards are trying to create a venue that isn't so industry-centric.
