Barsuk Records Will Release Kurt Cobain Documentary Soundtrack
By: Spacelab Research Staff Back in the day, a Rolling Stone writer named Michael Azerrad wrote a book about Kurt Cobain and the rise of Nirvana called Come As You Are: The Story of Nirvana which seems like no big deal until you realize that it was one of the best tales about the band ever written. Now you get something better than Cliff's Notes... you get a movie! No painful reading required.
Titled Kurt Cobain About A Son, it debuted at the Seattle International Film Festival before its release opening in New York on October 3, Los Angeles on October 5 and Seattle on October 12. Its based on 25 hours of previously unreleased interviews that our boy Michael had on tape stored in a secret stash. Descriptions about the movie are vague at this point, but it sounds like the recorded interviews might serve as narration for the film, allowing Kurt to tell his own tale.
"The film is not a documentary about Nirvana, the band Kurt fronted, nor is it even a documentary in the traditional sense, but a profound, almost dream-like account of Cobain's own successes and failures, thoughts and experiences, allowing the audience unprecedented intimacy with a legendary figure in popular culture," reads the Sidetrack Films description of the movie.
Barsuk Records is releasing the soundtrack on the ominous date of September 11th. The film will feature a score done by Ben Gibbard from Death Cab For Cutie as well as producer Steve Fisk. The film will also include music from Arlo Guthrie, Queen, Bad Brains, Big Black, Mudhoney Mark Lanegan, Iggy Pop, David Bowie and R.E.M. Also included on the soundtrack are portions of the interviews from the film.
