By: Christy Mannering Oh to be a part of the ocean, alas the Sea of Japan is surrounded by so much land that it barely has any tides at all; it’s a water-filled island. “Mer Du Japon” is the second single on Air’s fourth album Pocket Symphony which was released by Astralwerks (their US label) on March 5, 2007. The track will be released by Astralwerks on June 11th in the US although you can already take a listen on their MySpace page.
Who can deny the freshness of French electric lounge music? And to add more electricity, the music video for “Mer du Japon” has already hit the waves and it compliments the sensual, down-tempo feel of the song in an almost erotic way with excellent choreography. The soothing atmosphere surrounding all of Air’s music is no different in this upcoming single.
So open your ears to the sweet sounds of a synthesized, poppy piano and the soft vocals of Nicolas Godin and Jean-Benoît Dunckel. Because much like the “acronym” of their name AIR (Amour, Imagination, Rêve) « Mer Du Japon » is a dream of love that no longer needs to be imagined.
