You Follow Me to Europe: Nina Nastasia and Jim White On Tour
By: Chrisy Mannering
While in the UK on her Homefirestour, Nina Nastasia has been on the road with Richard Swift and Adem, who will be playing with the Elysian Quartet. She’ll be switching gears on June 29th when she joins up with Jim White who recently collaborated with her for the album You Follow Me. The record was released by FatCat Records on May 28, 2007 in Europe; a US release has been slotted for August 14th. FatCat says this collaboration “a taut, raw document of two incredible musicians in deep dialogue, exploring the boundaries of song form to find a rare and striking complement.”
Having a two-piece act follow-up shouldn’t be too shocking for fans, because Jim White has been on several of her previously released records. Last year Nina Nastasia released her first FatCat album, On Leaving. This collaboration, You Follow Me, is her fifth full length album to date.
Jim White is most known for working with the instrumental group The Dirty Three, but he has also done projects with Smog, Nick Cave, Beth Orton and PJ Harvey. With songwriters and bands world-wide requesting his skills on their albums, there is no doubt he is an outstanding drummer.
The pair worked together with Kennan Gudjonsson on the process of fine-tuning the album. The match-up is a success with Nastasia’s smooth vocals and finger-picking skills and White’s refined percussion; as the emotion of the lyrics seems to be the focus. Their touring together in promotion of the album will surely provide an intense show.
Further tour dates outside of Europe are in the works, but have not yet been confirmed.
