They can't really be all that secret if the're telling us about them in advance, right? Secret or not, the White Stripes are continuing their habit of playing short-notice shows with the announcement of shows this week in both New York and Los Angeles in support of their new album Icky Thump.
The LA show is at what the band is calling an "Icky Thump Store," which suggests an impromptu location to perform and sell the album. The New York gig happens on June 19th and Los Angeles on June 20th.
In New York, the're playing The Fillmore at Irving Plaza, and will put tickets on sale at the Fillmore only starting on June 16th.
You have to but the album to see the show. A blurb on the White Stripes web site says "The band will play a live show for fans at a specially constructed "Icky Thump Records" store on Sunset Boulevard. The location of Icky Thump Records is the site of the former Tower Records flagship store at 8801 W. Sunset Blvd. Tickets for this unique performance will be made available to the first 200 fans who purchase the album at this store, which opens at midnight on Monday, June 18th. "
Talk about line hysteria... I'll bet people are already in line. If you don't make it (or live somewhere else) you can always checkout the show as the webcast it on ATT's Blue Room.
