MySpace Launches New Video Player

By: Spacelab Research Staff
Looking to get in the cage with YouTube and go pound for pound in the race to offer video on the Web, MySpace has officially launched a beta version of a new video player and has plans to take it to the next level. They're calling it MySpace TV, and giving it its own web site, but it's all part of the same player that you can now embed in MySpace pages.

Given the fact that Newscorp (Rupert Murdoch) owns MySpace, you have to figure that they're literally bursting to get video out there, as Newscorp has been trying like crazy for the last two years to lay the groundwork for offering video on the Interweb. MySpace TV builds on what the site has been offering over most of this year, which is a lot of exclusive video releases.

What's the experience like? You do have to watch a short ad before some of the videos play, and some of the videos have some of the same jerky playback you get on YouTube, but others seem to flow smoothly, like the clip where Rage Against The Machine's Tom Morello interviews Michael Moore or this clip on the Stockholm music scene.
