By: Spacelab Research Staff Radiohead could be the most dangerous band in the world right now, with a lot of momentum, no major label tie downs, plus the band is completely in control of its own future. They can do whatever they want, as fast or as slow as they want to.
It's with that idea that I introduce to you the beginning of a very interesting phase in the existence of the Radiohead existential. Guitarist Jonny Greenwood just announced in Paste magazine last week that the new Radiohead album is done with the recording phase, so the band is now probably on the prowl for a good mix-down artist and a label.
It was two years ago that Thom Yorke made his cryptic announcement on the Radiohead web site that said the band was going into the studio. Now they've emerged on the other side of that studio time, as one of the bands that saved modern music at the end of the nineties, as one of the bands that continually reinvent themselves, and as one of the bands that stays out far enough in front of everyone that everyone else is just musically catching up to their last album, Hail To The Thief, right now.
So where will they go from here? Who knows! They could actually try to go without a label. Radiohead presents: Radiohead. Or they could just sign a distribution deal with someone. Or they could make film scores like Johnny Greenwood's new foray into the world of Paul Thomas Anderson's film There Will Be Blood. Check out the promo video on the right.
Whatever happens, it should be a very interesting ride. They're completey in the drivers seat right now, everybody wants a piece of them, and they get to decide on the best offer.
