When he's not sticking it to the man over people using his music in advertisements, and when he's not making up tour acronyms in video press conferences, Tom Waits likes to play live shows. He'll do that this Summer when he hits Europe.
It's the Glitter and Doom tour, representing everything that is optimistic and pessimistic about Tom Waits, all under the banner of one nicely packaged and easy to consume live show.
He'll play his first-ever shows in Spain and the Czech Republic in a sparse set of shows scheduled for the month of July. Old boy knows how to do it right, with days off in between shows to actually go out and see Europe, rather than speeding from gig to gig.
"I have a stellar band: Larry Taylor (upright bass), Patrick Warren (keyboards), Omar Torrez (guitars), Vincent Henry (woodwinds) and Casey Waits (drums and percussion). They play with racecar precision and they are all true conjurers. I’m doing songs with them I’ve never attempted outside the studio. They are all multi-instrumentalists and they polka like real men. We are the Borman Six and as Putney says, “The Borman Six have got to have soul,” said Tom in a mock interview with himself at the Anti- Records label blog.
