Pivot: Interesting, Catchy, Fragmented, Disjointed,
and Prone to Tangents

By: Corey Tate

Recent Warp Records addition Pivot are exploding right now with their recent In The Blood EP and a scheduled performance supporting Yellow Magic Orchestra at the Meltdown Festival, curated by Massive Attack. They'll also tour with Sigur Ros in Australia later this year.

Pivot sounds interesting, catchy, fragmented, disjointed, and prone to tangents. That all adds up to a sound of diverse influences, while maintaining some kind of cohesiveness to the overall vehicle. The music curiously splits the divide between experimental, electronic, and indie rock leanings.

They're electronic like Auechre, but also sound organic like they use traditional instruments; they've even been compared to labelmates Battles. They're currently offering a free MP3 through the Warp web site for the song Didn't I Furious.

They're releasing a new album titled O Soundtrack My Heart on Warp on August 18th. In the meantime, you can check out the MP3 of Didn't I Furious and the video for In the Blood.
