Some day Rage Against the Machine singer Zach De La Rocha will start a new band. Some day he'll turn from lamb to lion, and hike himself up by the bootstraps and face the world with a new ideology built on the past but looking forward. Lucky for all of us, that day is today.
Zach is starting a new band with Jon Theodore (Mars Volta) called One Day as a Lion , a band that is "both a warning delivered and a promise kept," as the band puts it.
An announcement on their web site reads “A defiant affirmation of the possibilities that exist in the space between kick and snare. It’s a sonic reflection of the visceral tension between a picturesque fabricated cultural landscape, and the brutal socioeconomic realities it attempts to mask. One Day As A Lion is a recorded interaction between Zack de la Rocha and Jon Theodore from Los Angeles, California.”
“The name taken from the infamous 1970 black and white, captured by legendary Chicano photographer George Rodriguez featuring a center framed tag on a white wall in an unspecified section of Boyle Heights. It reads: ‘It’s better to live one day as a lion, than a thousand years as a lamb.’ This record is a stripped down attempt to realize this sentiment in sound.”
Zach will perform vocal and keyboard duties while Mr. Theodore will get to bang on the drums. They recorded the album at the legendary Ocean Way Recording studio in Hollywood with Robert Carranza.
One Day as a Lion will be released on Anti- Records on July 22nd.
