Karen O of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs thinks there is unfilled demand for music under the Melodramatic Popular Song genre, so she set out to do something about it. She's started a new band/project titled Native Korean Rock.
"Native Korean Rock is a side project of mine comprised of a body of love songs written over the last two years, to be performed with a motley crew of NYC natives. Expect high drama, high stakes in two intimate performances," she said in a posting on the Yeah Yeah Yeahs web site blog.
This has nothing to do with the Yeah Yeah Yeahs seems to be the popular and stressed undercurrent here. This ain't your Grandpappy's Karen O, either. The songs are quiet, introspective, not screechy, acoustic, and sound (so far, but they're demos) like they were recorded inside of a tin can.
The band's profile seems to favor naked water photos of someone ... no word yet on whether it's Karen O or somebody else.
