Mira Calix is back on October 27th with a new release: The Elephant In the Room. It's part two of a series under the title of 3 Commissions, and includes selections of Mira's commissioned works.
"It contains extracts from compositions for; Elephant and Castle , an opera commissioned by the acclaimed Aldeburgh festival, Dead Wedding , commissioned by the Manchester International Festival and Opera North, and two movements taken from 'memoryofamoment' a 20-minute piece created for a video installation at Faster Than Sound," said Warp Records on their web site.
Mira Calix is known for creating electronic and experimental soundtracks for sonic visualization. What started as an attempt to be a DJ quickly turned into making music, which led to all kinds of experimentation. She's played shows with Radiohead, Godspeed You! Black Emperor and Aphex Twin, to name a few.
Warp Records goes on to describe The Elephant In the Room as "Spread over nine tracks, the music gently swells with an evocative, string-led, neo-classical/avant-garde atmosphere and retreats within the distant resonance of atmospheric field recordings."
