The Webcaster Settlement Act of 2008 cleared another hurdle over the weekend when the House of Representatives voted in favor of the bill. It now heads to the Senate and on to the president's desk for approval ... and somebody better be hiding his veto pen.
The bill has better support than any other previous form of the bill, including support from SoundExchange, the RIAA and webcasters; they're all finally in general agreement on the solution.
The bill would provide an alternate structure for payment than previous proposals, like the one offered in the past by the Copyright Royalty Board.
