Matisyahu Looking Towards a Big Year with New Material

By: Spacelab Research Staff

With the world economy sliding downwards, Matisyahu is getting warmed up for a busy year. He's starting out with an EP release of advance material from an album due out next year.

""I didn't put out any new music in three years, so I wanted to tour this fall and give fans some new music to listen to. We sort of decided to split it up and put the EP out first. This way at least people have something to listen to until the record comes out," he said when speaking to Billboard.

The EP, titled Shattered, coincides with the start of his tour and will let the Matisyahu nation get a hint of what's in store for 2009. Not wanting to stop there, he's even promised to give a free live performance download to anyone who comes to a show on the upcoming tour.

Matisyahu traveled to Jamaica, New York, Los Angeles, and the cultural barometer of Virginia to work on the material. The EP features appearances from Sly & Robbie, Stephen McGregor, Fish, Norwood Fisher, and Ooah.

All of the material leads up to a 2009 release of a full length album, titled Light. The shows will all be based in New York.
