Beirut Will Surface in 2009 with Two EPs

By: Spacelab Research Staff

A double disc EP begs the question ... why not just make it one disc and call it an album? Such questions are for Zach Condon, as he is launching a new EP set for his Beirut and Realpeople projects.

Respectfully entitled March Of The Zapotec and Holland, the EPs will arrive in February of 2009, courtesy of Pompeii Records and Ba Da Bing. Zapotec features six tracks partly recorded in Mexico and Holland is the revival of a bedroom-recording project that Zach had started in the past.

As for the why a double EP question, here's what Zach told Pitchfork in a recent interview: "Maybe the best way to put it is just... the stuff I do is so opposite...It's so incredibly different. The acoustic stuff is a very new thing [for me]. I spent years and years doing electronic music. And it's funny, I decided to put them both together just because I thought, why not? If you like the acoustic stuff, it shouldn't be that difficult to like both. [Laughs]."
