With all the optimistic talk of hope for the future lately, it should come as no surprise when that pops up in the art and music world. We've seen enough cynicism to last us for a whole decade, so why not detach from that immerse yourself in something more positive?
Enter The Big Pink. A project formed by Robbie Furve and Milo Cordell, they've recently signed on to 4AD and are working on releasing new material.
4AD describes them as "Two old friends in love with digital hardcore and the narcotic effects of blessed out electronic music. Woozy refrains take become 'pink noise'. They dream of the future. More people should. There is an incredible human soul to all they do, something entrancing."
So the hype machine ramps up as they've just won the Philip Hall 'Radar' award at the NME Awards. The award is given to a winner selected by NME editors.
They'll release "Velvet" as a single on both 7" and download, featuring artwork from longtime 4AD art collaborator V23. They'll introduce a new song as the b-side, "Awareness." The single is due for release on April 20th.
They've just launched their new video for Velvet (not safe for work), directed by Rob Hawkins. The band is expected to release a full length album on 4AD later this year.
There's also a small tour scheduled for April.
