Who said that vinyl was dead? Just when you thought you wouldn't get anymore releases of Nirvana material in new ways, comes the news the the Original Recordings Group will release a number of their albums on 180-gram high quality vinyl.
"Nevermind," "In Utero," and "MTV Unplugged" are scheduled to be released on ORG later this year.
"To our knowledge this is the first time Unplugged has ever come out on vinyl. They might have done a limited promotional thing, but I doubt it," said Monti Olson, senior vice president of Universal Music Publishing Group and founder of ORG, when speaking to Billboard.
Even Sub Pop is getting in on the action, manufacturing copies of Nirvana's first album "Bleach" for vinyl as well.
The action doesn't stop with Nirvana, as other bands are slated for more reissue treatment from the ORG.
"We're going to be releasing a lot of classic alternative music from the '80s and '90s on 180-gram vinyl. Stuff that's more obscure and more popular. We're in negotiation with quite a few of those artists," he said. |
