The Mirror Explodes on May 19th, in more ways than one. It's the name of the new Warlocks album. You can currently hear the track "Red Camera" from the new album at the band's MySpace.
The album was recorded by Rod Cervera (Weezer, The Rentals) at Clear Lake Studios. It will be their fifth full-length release.
The Warlocks channel anything from droney guitar haze to 60's California
pop to neo-psychedelia, wrapping it all up into a heady bunch of sights
and sounds that punch you in the gut while detaching your mind. The
band comes warbling out of the not-so-distant and hazy past that led to
sounds like The Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Brian Jonestown Massacre, and all of the jangly post-Jesus-and-Mary-Chain bands.
"Where the band’s last long player, Heavy Deavy Skull Lover, tweaked time in an icy-cool, white-noise swirl that evoked a decadent lysergic night, The Mirror Explodes is disorientation through a longer lens —pictures of luck, longing, losing, moods and fever dreams scrambled in the haze of near and distant memory," says their label Tee Pee Records.
