The Shins 2.0: A New Band, With New People, for a New Era

By: Spacelab Research Staff

James Mercer decided it was high time to reinvigorate the Shins line up and add new members, to carry out a new vision. Departed are keyboardist Marty Crandall and drummer Jesse Sandoval.

"I started to have production ideas that I wanted to do that basically required some other people. It's mainly about that. It's an aesthetic decision," frontman James Mercer told Pitchfork in an interview.

The new members are Ron Lewis (Grand Archives, Fruit Bats) and Joe Plummer (Modest Mouse). They've agreed to be members of the Shins for the current tour and the next album, which is due for release early next year.

They kicked off the tour in Portland, and will play in select cities around the country.
